Hi, my name is Erin!
I currently lead research communications at the University of Maine.
I have worked for more than 14 years as a member and leader of creative teams. I specialize in translating complex initiatives and technical information into goal-aligned, multichannel content.
My background includes experience across state and federal agencies, nonprofits, and higher education. This experience honed my ability to advance communications projects alongside diverse stakeholders including scientists, elected officials, agencies, nonprofits, and businesses to further a shared purpose.
Let’s take a look at an example of my work.
The Howland Research Forest is home to one of the nation’s longest running studies on forest-carbon dynamics. The work nearly came to a standstill this August when federal support was interrupted. I created this content to help generate new funding.
The content strategy
The story was written to serve dual purposes, functioning as both journalism and a soft fundraising vehicle on institutional news channels.
It was also distilled into congressional briefings, social media content, and donor appeals. Through this multichannel approach, I met different segments of our multi-faceted audience where they were with customized content that reflects what they care about.
I also made target pitches to reporters, generating interviews with reporters who work for one statewide and two national-level news outlets. Two also plan to visit the forest as a part of their reporting later this summer.
